The Winkie story thus far...
Back in 1987, my seamstress mother sent me packing from the chilly
easterly town of Timaru, in the South Island of New Zealand, southwards to
the slightly colder climes of Otago University in Dunedin, armed with a
couple of terrific flannelette nightshirts, deemed
Winkie.
Student friends soon became avid wearers of the
Winkie and a mini cult following developed into a cottage
industry.
Not only did students spend an inordinate amount of time in their
Winkie, but many also passed on their sentiments when
buying them for parents.
Demand outweighed supply of Winkie’s for a greater
part of the 1990’s while other work seemed to take precedence, and we are
now proud to be offering Winkie to a wider
populace.
A nightshirt was the sleepwear garment of choice for
many moons prior to the 20th century, and we hope you find the
Winkie both practical and fun, and share your delight by
recommending them to family and
friends.
